Children’s Day

Seeds of Compassion Children’s Day is a day for youth from all over Washington State to come together and share their expressions of What Compassion Looks Like™ and to learn how to grow their experiences of compassion from the leaders in the compassion movement, most notably His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

There will also be multiple programs focused on children who will have booths set up at Seattle Center to invite children to get involved with compassion. Children will return by bus to their schools.

From Knowledge to Compassion Action: What We All Can Do

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be joined by leaders in the area of compassion and empathy for a wide ranging discussion of how parents and educators can bring compassion into the lives of children and families. Moderated by Mark Greenberg, Director of Prevention Research Center for the Promotion of Human Development at Penn State.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other luminaries will celebrate compassion in action at Qwest Field. During the event, programs and organizations from throughout the Northwest will have booths on the Qwest Field concourse to show how you can learn more about compassion, and how you can bring your passion and energy to your community.

Compassion at Home, in Schools and the Community

At the conclusion of the public event at Qwest Field please join us at the WaMu theater for a discussion of the role of compassion in the home, at school, and in the community. Panelists will include Dan Siegel, M.D., author of “The Mindful Brain”; Jennifer James, urban cultural anthropologist, former faculty member at the University of Washington, author, and international lecturer; and Ed Taylor, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs at the University of Washington.

Compassion in Action Workshops

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will provide opening remarks for the day, as Seeds of Compassion hosts multiple workshops that will bring together individuals who are ready to dedicate themselves to promoting compassion. These workshops will impact focus on multiple areas of building compassion including several workshops on parenting, education, and public policy. Please check back soon to see the lineup of these workshops and how you, your friends, and your neighbors can get involved in bringing compassion to our community.

Tuesday, April 15 – Youth and Spiritual Connection Dialogue

InterSpiritual Panel Discussion with His Holiness the Dalai Lama

This special panel discussion will feature His Holiness the Dalai Lama and several other key spiritual leaders in a dialogue on the themes that are common to all spiritual traditions. The concluding session of Seeds of Compassion, the dialogue will focus on the common theme of compassion that lies at the heart of the world’s spiritual traditions.

InterSpirituality Panel Discussion, 2nd Session

At this second session, several local and national spiritual and religious leaders will join Rabbi David Rosen and other key spiritual leaders to continue discussion on the most practical ways to implement compassion in our daily lives.

Compassion Workshops and Forums

Following the InterSpirituality panels please join us for a series of workshops, forums and roundtable discussions on Spirituality and Compassion. These varying dialogues will enable the community to come together in a full discussion of how to implement spirituality and compassion in our lives and communities. Participants will have great opportunities to exchange ideas and develop plans on how to increase mutual understanding while putting compassionate goals into practice.

Please join us for a first-of-its-kind luncheon for our area’s business and public policy leaders. This unique luncheon will is your opportunity to see examples of how businesses are successfully implementing compassionate practices in the workplace, and how those actions can deliver both quantitative and qualitative benefits to customers, employees, and investors. During the luncheon you will have an opportunity to connect with your fellow leaders, and to brainstorm ideas for implementing compassion in your business, as well as into our community.

Discussion with His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Results of Compassion Forums and Business and Policy Luncheon

Immediately following the luncheon everyone will be invited for a session with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in dialogue on bringing compassion into the workplace and our community. This dialogue with His Holiness and our community’s business and public policy leaders will focus on the next steps we can take to transform our region.
